It’s a new month, and time for a new “happy” list. It’s good to keep this stuff on hand for blue days. I hope something on it will make you smile, too–or remind you of something that does.
1. Spring is coming
It was not an easy winter this year, not here in Utah, and not for lots of other places in the country. That makes it all the more exciting to see signs of spring. Today I sat outside at the library and studied: There were daffodils in bloom and birds singing. The days are longer, the sun shines. Spring is hopeful and promising.
2. Easter candy
Part of springtime is that Easter is coming. One of my favorite candies is only available at this time of year: Sweetart Jelly Beans. Have you tried them? If you haven’t, right now’s the time to go out and buy some!
3. “Jesus Shaves” by David Sedaris
This essay, from the book Me Talk Pretty One Day, has become something like my family’s annual Easter reading. It takes place as the author, David Sedaris, is living in France (having followed his boyfriend there) and studying French full-time. I love languages, and I have spent years of my life in foreign language classes. That’s part of why I love the essay, along with how it pokes fun at our cultural assumptions about what is normal. The essay (along with the whole book) is worth checking out.
4. A new website design
Did you notice? Exciting!
5. The IT Crowd
This British comedy is available on Netflix. I’ve seen every episode at least twice, but pulled it up again recently–and it still makes me laugh. My favorite episode is called “The Work Outing.” Try it out if you’re looking for a smile.
