I just finished my sixth week of physician assistant school. I expected it to be a real challenge...and I was right. Things have been really hard, and, I'm not going to lie, I've been pretty down.
One thing that has been helping is music. It's been helping me wind down and fall asleep at night, get going in the morning, and cheer up when I'm sad. Along with that, I really love a good music video--those videos that are creative and clever (and don't just show someone singing the whole time).
I decided to post some of the music videos (and videos to music) I love. Maybe they'll help you cheer up, too.
"Downtown" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
Macklemore is one of my all-time favorite artists. I love his lyrics and view on the world, how he is always collaborating with other talented artists, his sense of humor, and his creative videos with awesome dance moves. You get some of all of that in "Downtown"--I read recently Macklemore said, "Ryan [Lewis] made a beat on the road called 'moping around,' I got the beat, I thought it said moped." And thus this song about mopeds was born.
"This Too Shall Pass" by OK Go
OK Go's first music video with four guys on eight treadmills makes me think of the kind of thing a group of high school boys would come up with for the talent show--the sense of humor and cleverness that made me enjoy teaching high schoolers. Since that video OK Go has continued to come up with clever stuff. This is one of my favorites.
"Sugar" by Maroon 5
For this music video, Maroon 5 took a day crashing weddings in LA, preforming for stunned then delighted people.
"Umbrella" by Rihanna: Tom Holland Lip Sync Battle
This just always makes me so happy.
"Gangnam Style" by Psy
A catchy song and video that makes me laugh. But please stop calling the song "gaeng-nam" style. As someone who's spent a good amount of time in Seoul, I promise you it's pronounced "gahng-nahm"...just like how he says it in the song ;)
"Rolex" by Ayo & Teo: Cosmo and the Cougarettes
A performance during a Brigham Young University football game--I'm twice over a BYU alum, but this is the closest I've ever gotten to one of their sporting events. The video always makes me happy.
"Cosmo" by Soprano
I found this one during my time as a French teacher, looking for French music for my students. This is an energetic, happy song, and I love the crowd-sourced video, too.
"Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus: ASL version by Stephen Torrence
I had a college roommate who showed me this video when I had bad day. It still cheers me up.
"Roar" by Katy Perry
I love music videos that tell a story, and this one is one that's about bravery and confidence in yourself.
